In daily life we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy. – Brother David Steindl-Rast @ gratefulness.org
Gratitude isn’t an emotion…it’s the commotion swirling in my heart when I’m struggling to make sense of a crisis or a crazy schedule and yet I know, I know everything is in God’s hands.
Gratitude isn’t even really a choice…it’s a carrying of my heart to the Throne of Grace and laying down the burdens, the dreams, the desires, and whispering “Okay, I think I’ll just leave this here now,” and not picking up the bundle again no matter how bad I want to.
Gratitude isn’t seeing how foolish I look. It’s jumping in a pile of leaves anyway.
Gratitude isn’t random prayer. It’s the realization that, yes, He really is in control.
Gratitude isn’t letting the little moments slip away. It’s counting the gifts one by one and knowing they will never stop.
“You’ll come to learn a great deal if you study the Insignificant in depth.”
– Chantel, hostess of GreaThings 2011
Gratitude isn’t so much turning away from all of the darkness (and the faces crying out from the darkness) as it is looking into the dazzling radiance of His Truth.
What is (or isn’t) Gratitude to you?
