While Love Stirs by Lorna Seilstad

When Charlotte and Joel are coerced into planning a fund-raising gala for the hospital, will this combustible pair explode?

Lorna writes in an engaging, humorous, but heart-stirring style. That’s a talented combination, and I truly enjoyed While Love Stirs.

I love that Charlotte is an independent woman. Educated. With ideas of her own about what she wishes to do with her life. Rare during that time period but very relevant (and relatable!) to today (and to me, new graduate that I am!).

Joel had my heart from the first. Poor Lewis never had a chance (though I wish him well, because he proved himself a real sweetheart). But strong Joel’s OCD tendencies were hysterical. I even texted a friend midway through reading the book that I’d never encountered a hero with his need for organization. Charlotte, on the other hand, is a free spirit, and she is not afraid to speak her mind. The combination made for highly entertaining reading.

About two-thirds through the book, the pacing picked up significantly, and for a while I felt a little lost with all that was happening. A lot was going on that felt slightly contrived, but romances are a hit with me when there is an external conflict besides the couple’s, ahem, combustibiltiy. I enjoyed that this author threw in so many conflicts like that.

I’ve enjoyed the few books of Lorna’s that I’ve read in the past, and I recommend this one! A gem among Christian fiction, to be sure, and going on my keeper shelf.
