The Bound Heart by Dawn Crandall

The Bound Heart (The Everstone Chronicles, #2)

Will she be strong enough to break free from the tangled web she’s convinced she deserves?

You know that feeling when you begin reading a book and you’re a little unsure of how it’s all going to turn out? I like that feeling–and Dawn Crandall is a master at writing it into her novels.

Quick note: the way this novel begins is slightly unconventional, and so I’m not sure I’d recommend it for younger readers. However, Dawn approaches the scene with tact and builds off Meredyth’s mistake really well.

As always, I love that Dawn writes historicals that put you in the time and place without letting the history intrude (I don’t mind when books do this; I just found this a refreshing change). Instead, the love story takes center stage. Meredyth has a lot to work through, so this works well. Lawry certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Readers of Laura Frantz’ dramatic historicals and Julie Lessman’s twist-filled sagas will love the The Bound Heart of the Everstone Chronicles. A story of redemption, forgiveness, and mercy, The Bound Heart explores how a heart once bound can be set free. I love that the ending drives home this message in a surprising way.

And then that twist at the end! Definitely made me want to dive right into the next in the series, which I’m reading right now, so look for that review coming soon. :)

About the Author

A graduate of Taylor University with a degree in Christian Education, and a former bookseller at Barnes & Noble, Dawn Crandall didn’t begin writing until her husband found out about her long-buried dream of writing a book. Without a doubt about her someday becoming traditionally published, he encouraged her to quit her job in 2010 in order to focus on writing The Hesitant Heiress. It didn’t take her long to realize that writing books was what she was made to do. The Everstone Chronicles is Dawn’s first series with Whitaker House. All three books in the series were semifinalists in ACFW’s prestigious Genesis Writing Contest, the third book going on to become a finalist in 2013.
