An isolated island girl with painful memories. A dedicated city boy with a wild past. What will it cost for them both to find a refuge from their storms?
I don’t often read contemporary romances (I’m more fond of historicals), but this one swept me away. Skye is a recluse who isn’t quite hiding from a trouble past as she is withdrawn from a troubling present. Her love for her island haven had me falling for the peaceful piece of nature she claims as her own–along with two eagle friends.
Danny is a workaholic committed to a good cause–and for good reason. He once was one of the inner-city boys he counsels. But then he is forced to take a vacation and meets an island girl who is both independent and vulnerable…
Add in an element of intrigue and danger when strange happenings on the island point to someone bent on destroying the peace Skye and Danny treasure, and I was flying through the pages. Or, at least, moderately so, since I was privileged to be the run a business for this project.
I especially liked how Sandra incorporated the passage of time: this was no island vacation fling. And Skye and Danny’s hearts for nature and helping troubled teens came through loud and clear, too.
Put a hurting almost-hermit together with a compassionate city boy, and a sweet love story unfolds. Readers of contemporary fiction (and even historical-loving converts like me!) will love this look at a tranquil island where there’s no electricity but sparks still fly.
